Looking to listen to your audiobook in the Car or on a CD player to listen as you go to bed at night? Then follow the instructions below to burn your audiobook on to a CD using iTunes software.
If you don’t already have iTunes installed on your computer you can download it here.
Creating a Playlist
Step 1. To burn your Audiobook in iTunes, you will first need to create a playlist.
- Choose File > New > Playlist.
- Type a name for the playlist.
- To add items, drag them to the playlist on the right side of the iTunes window.
- When you’re finished adding items, click Done.
Initializing the Burn
Step 1. Insert a blank CD-R disc in to your CD burner drive.
Step 2. From the iTunes Library list in the left hand corner, click on the drop down, and select Music.
Step 3. Select the Playlists tab and on the left hand side of iTunes, right-click on the created playlist and select Burn Playlist to Disc.
Step 4. In the Burn Settings window, ensure that the Disc Format is set to Audio CD and select Burn. If MP3 CD or Data CD is selected, you will receive an error message when attempting to burn your audiobook.
Step 5. If the book requires more space than is available on the CD-R (between 70-80 minutes for most CD-R discs), an alert will appear that says, The single song in this playlist will not fit, do you want to create multiple CDs?, select Audio CDs.
Step 6. iTunes will begin burning the title to CD. Once the first disc is burned, iTunes will eject it and ask you to insert another blank disc. Once you insert another blank disc the burn will continue. This process will continue until the recording is completed.
Continuing a Burn
If the recording fails or is interrupted for some reason and you need to continue from the last properly burned disc, please do the following:
Step 1. Select the Playlist for the burn you’re working on, right-click on the audiobook title, and select Get Info.
Step 2. Select the Options tab and place a checkmark next to the Start Time (See Figure 6).
Step 3. Now adjust the Start Time based on the table below (using increments of 80 minutes) and then select OK.
Disc 1 – 00:00 to End
Disc 2 – 80:00 to End
Disc 3 – 160:00 to End
Disc 4 – 240:00 to End
Disc 5 – 320:00 to End
Disc 6 – 400:00 to End
Disc 7 – 480:00 to End
Disc 8 – 560:00 to End
Disc 9 – 640:00 to End
(as per example above, the End for this title is 6:11:03)
Step 4. Now attempt to re-burn your Audiobook.
Tip: If the CD burn fails frequently during the CD burn process or if you have completed burning your audiobook and are experiencing stuttering, gaps, and/or static during playback of your CD’s, it is possible you burned the title too fast or had too many other programs running during the burn process. To avoid this decrease the burn speed, exit out of any excessive programs during the burn process, and try a different brand of media.
Step 5. To do decrease the burn speed, after selecting Burn Disc you will have the option to lower the burn speed in the Burn Settings window. Lower the Preferred Speed before selecting Burn.
