Devil May Care by Sebastian Faulks
Devil may care is the latest in the cool, action fueled James Bond series, but this time it has been written by Sebastien Faulks rather than Ian Flemming. And Faulks has certainly captured Flemming’s unique style of writing in this exhilarating book.
The book is set in 1967 when 007 has been forced to take a rest leave, but of course no spy ever really gets a rest, and sure enough he is soon dragged back into the exciting world of gadgets, gun fights and high speed chases when evil genius Dr Julius Gorner is out to destroy Britain. It is Bonds job to stop his evil plan to fill England to the brim with heroin, not to mention his other equally diabolical plans waiting to be unleashed onto the world. Sebastien Faulks will not disappoint even the biggest Bond fan with this fantastic story.
This book translates into audio format brilliantly. It has to be said, this is mainly due to Tristan Laytons fantastic narration. With his various accents and voices you almost feel as if you are listening to an entire cast. His cool, dry delivery makes him the perfect choice for a Bond novel. The story line while mostly exciting, at some points can be a tad slow. Tristan Layton keeps these slower moments moving and the listener on the edge of their seat while at the same time playing around nicely with Sebastiens Faulk’s prose and descriptive language.
Devil may care is an absolute must for any Bond fan and equally for any avid reader.
